Yujie Chen is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Dance. Her research examines Chinese contemporary dance and popular performances in translational contexts. Her publications appeared in Dance Chronicle, Journal of Beijing Dance Academy, and more. She is a practitioner and educator of Chinese classical dance, Chinese ethnic and folk dance, and Taiji martial arts. She is also a dance filmmaker and multimedia artist. She was the commissioned Artist with the Young Artist Platform (YAP) of the China Dancers Association. Her dance films appeared at the National Center for the Performing Arts of China, the Jumping Frame International Dance Video Festival in Hong Kong, the San Francisco Dance Film Festival, and Screen.Dance (Scotland’s Festival of Dance on Screen), etc. She is the co-founder of YY Dance+Media and her collaborative multimedia work has been shown in dance festivals in Detroit, Kalamazoo, Beijing, etc. She is associate professor at Southwest University in China where she served as the Chair of the Dance Department and was a visiting scholar at the University of Florida.
