Dear Ohio State Dance Family,
As we begin another academic year here at Ohio State Dance, InForm takes this time to recognize comings and goings. In April we held a memorial gathering for our beloved emerita Lucy Venable. In May, we celebrated Dr. Melanye White-Dixon’s retirement after 33 years of service to this department and the professional field. Also in May, our brilliant Alexander Technique practitioner, Dale Beaver, retired from many years of teaching at Ohio State. And in July, Carrie Cox departed to join the staff of the dance department at Virginia Commonwealth University.
These goings are balanced by the coming of new people to our departmental community, including Alexander Technique expert Diana McCullough, former BalletMet dancer and MFA Dance Alumna Ellie Escosa Carter teaching ballet, Hip-Hop and Crumping professional Donald Isom and Director of Factory Street in Athens and MFA Dance Alumna Angelica Bell teaching Education.
We are currently searching for an assistant professor to join the faculty. Continuing our efforts to diversify our people, programs and curriculum, we seek a faculty colleague with expertise in Dance Forms of the African Diaspora, focusing on movement practice, composition and repertory. Please help us circulate the position description far and wide.
Lastly, BFA student Mia Williams is conducting her Senior Project in departmental alumni relations, with a goal to improve our connections with you. One example is an alumni tab on our website where we feature alumni employment, projects and news. If you should receive a questionnaire about the types of communication that best serve you, I urge you to reply.
Until then, all best,
